Day 62: Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.

Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.

As A Course in Miracles emphasizes over and over again, forgiveness paves the road to Salvation.  And today's meditation reiterates that point.

Forgiveness isn't always easy.  Actually, it seems it rarely ever is.  But imagine what kind of world this would be if we all forgave one another for every little thing that pissed us off or made us run to a dark corner and cry.  I think there'd be a whole lot less nuclear weapons hiding out around the globe.  That I can pretty damn well guarantee.

For me, forgiving others hasn't been nearly as difficult as forgiving myself.  And I'm a good person.  I'm a really good person.  But I expect a lot from myself.  And I think that in light of me turning 30 next year, I'm analyzing my life thus far and putting to question all I've ever done.  Have I done enough?  Perhaps, but have I done the degree of what I once envisioned for myself as a boy?  No.  And I'm not sure I've forgiven myself for that yet.

But what does it matter if I haven't accomplished what I thought I would at my age?  In the end, it doesn't.  But I know I have the potential to be so much more than I have been.  I think that potential resides in all of us.  Maybe forgiveness is where it starts.  Maybe that's the meaning behind today's meditation: Through forgiveness, our light shines brighter than we ever imagined it could.  And the more brightly we shine, the more joy we cultivate around ourselves.

So let us forgive, let us shine brightly, and let us be joyful.

Amen.

Until tomorrow,
Journeyman
