Today's meditation is an important reminder for us all. We are forever connected to our Source, never alone, and never apart from any of His creations.
Let me remember I am one with God, at one with all my brothers and my Self, in everlasting holiness and peace.
The Course asks us to find a time during the day to spend thirty minutes in stillness as we contemplate our Oneness with God.
In my own thirty-minute meditation, I attempted to understand this concept of Oneness on a deeper level. I was first told to simply sit with the idea that We are One with God. Do not try to to complicate matters with images, a distant voice instructed me. Just feel the Universe and everything in it by sitting in My place at the Center of it All. I did as God advised me, letting all thoughts and imagery I associated with Oneness fade away. I felt myself sink deeper and deeper, seeing nothing, but feeling everything. My body was gone, and in its place all I could feel was electricity. I sensed a nebulous, constantly-expanding essence all around me, of which I, too, was a part. And if I paid close attention, I could feel electrical impulses tingling in various sections of the shapeless form in which I sat. These tiny pulsations filled me with a unique joy and warmth with every sensation I felt. I realized then that this was the True Universe, or as close as I could now come to comprehending it.
Being spirit incarnated in a physical world, we are accustomed to using our five senses in order to understand something. But this was way beyond anything our five human senses could touch. It could only be felt, and even that, I believe, was a meager experience of what Truly awaits us.
Of course, living in on a physical plane of existence, I soon began translating what I was feeling into imagery, in order to have a tangible context I could take with me as I returned to the material world.
As a representation of what I felt, I started to envision God as a Great Tree. But instead of bark and branches and leaves, this Tree was made of Light. The trunk, the Center of the Tree, was like the Core of our Universe. Each limb springing from it represented a galaxy. Each branch sprouting forth was a solar system, and each twig upon the branches was a different planet. The leaves were like the life-forms living upon each planet. Every leaf was connected to every other through the branches of Light within the Great Tree.
This, I thought, was a wonderful picture. We are all, every one of us, part of the same Great Tree of Life. We are all a life-force of Light upon that Tree, at one with our Holy Family, which is our God.
Tonight, as I went for a long walk on a beautiful cool evening amid the rain-stained streets of Los Angeles, I breathed in the crisp autumn air as I gazed at the towering trees lining the sidewalks strewn with fallen leaves. I thought about the experience I had in my meditation, and the image I saw of the Great Tree of Light. What a glorious thing to know that we are all connected to one another, that every person we encounter is our family, joined with us in our Oneness with God.
Know today that you are not alone. Know that your rightful place in Heaven has been kept for you as your presence on this earth contributes to the electrical impulses of Joy which are felt throughout the Universe. You are an essential part of God's Tree of Life and Light. Shine brightly with your happiness, and your brothers and sisters will surely feel the tingling of your joy as you move through life with the awareness that you are One with God.
Until tomorrow,
Journeyman
